MKT-077 is a compound that inhibits mitochondrial function, leading to cell death. It has been shown to be cytotoxic in vitro and in vivo. MKT-077 has significant pharmacokinetic properties, including high plasma protein binding and low clearance. The drug has been shown to have a tumor treatment effect on solid tumours in vivo with no toxicity observed at doses up to 50 mg/kg. MKT-077 also exhibits strong antitumor activity against the prostate cancer cell line DU145 both in vitro and in vivo. This compound induces apoptosis by inhibiting mitochondrial membrane potential, which leads to the release of cytochrome c from the mitochondria into the cytosol, activating caspases and resulting in DNA degradation by pyridinium ions.
