Gypenoside L is a bacterial strain that can be found in the acetate extract of Gypsum wallichianum. It has been shown to induce autophagy, which is a process by which cells destroy unwanted materials and recycle them for energy. Autophagy is important in combating senescence and cancer cell viability. Gypenoside L also has anti-inflammatory properties, as it inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as epidermal growth factor and colony-stimulating factor. Gypenoside L inhibits the mitochondrial membrane potential, which leads to apoptosis or necrosis. This compound has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and chemoinvasion through its effects on reactive oxygen species (ROS) production.
