C-82 is a synthetic small molecule that inhibits the activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which are enzymes that break down the extracellular matrix. C-82 has been shown to inhibit MMP-9 activity, mitochondrial membrane potential, and cyclin D2 in human cells. C-82 also induces apoptosis through a reactive oxygen species (ROS)-dependent pathway by targeting mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum. The chemical stability of C-82 was tested in a model system of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with DNA. It showed no effects on the polymerase chain reaction process and was not degraded by the body mass index (BMI).
