MBQ-167 is an experimental drug that has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in mice. This drug binds to the cell factor, a receptor found on cancer cells, and inhibits the activation of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and stem cell factor (SCF). MBQ-167 was also shown to have anti-tumor activity in human breast cancer cells by inhibiting the transcription of genes that are important for cancer cell viability. The anti-tumor effects of this compound were not seen in animal models with normal tissue. It is believed that these effects may be due to its ability to inhibit the growth factors β1 and EGF.
