Product Information
- K114 (fluorescing agent)
K 114 is a fatty acid that has been shown to inhibit the binding of penicillin-binding protein (PBP) to the cell wall, which prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. K 114 also inhibits tubule cells in vitro by binding to adenosine receptors in the cells. The mechanism of inhibition of tubule cells is not yet fully understood, but it may be due to K 114's ability to enhance cyclic AMP production and its ability to bind to a receptor on tubule cells. These properties make K 114 a potential treatment for interstitial cystitis.
