Naringenin trimethyl ether is a flavonoid that is found in the fruit of citrus plants such as oranges, grapefruits, and lemons. Naringenin trimethyl ether has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of fatty acids in fat cells by interfering with the action of hydrochloric acid. It also has benzodiazepine receptor-binding properties and has been shown to have inhibitory activities against resection in rats. Naringenin trimethyl ether can be synthesized from naringenin and methyliodide. The biosynthesis of this compound involves a retroflexion reaction between a chalcone and an enol form of the molecule. This compound is soluble in organic solvents such as acetone or chloroform, but insoluble in water.
