Product Information

Name:
Entacapone sodium
Controlled Product
Description:

Entacapone is a drug that belongs to the class of catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitors. It is used as an adjunct to levodopa therapy for Parkinson's disease and other disorders of dopamine metabolism. Entacapone inhibits COMT and increases the amount of levodopa available for conversion to dopamine. Entacapone has been shown to increase the level of the neurotrophic factors, such as nerve growth factor, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, and glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor. This drug also has been shown to increase energy metabolism in mitochondria by preventing the decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential.
Entacapone sodium is a salt form of entacapone that is soluble in water, while entacapone hydrochloride is a hydrochloride salt form that is not soluble in water.
