SCH 336 is an antagonist of the cannabinoid receptor CB2. The drug binds to the cb2 receptor with a high affinity and blocks the effects of endogenous cannabinoids, such as anandamide. SCH 336 has been shown to be effective in reducing inflammation in rats by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines. This drug also inhibits neuronal death induced by cholinesterase inhibitors and has been shown to have pain-relieving properties. However, it is not very effective in suppressing food intake or body weight gain in rats fed a high fat diet.
