ML169 is an allosteric modulator of acetylcholine receptors. It binds to the active site of the receptor and modulates its affinity for acetylcholine and other ligands, altering their effects. ML169 has been shown to enhance cholinergic neurotransmission in animal models, and as a result, improve symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. ML169 is an acetylcholine-like agent that can be used as a dietary supplement or as a symptomatic treatment for dementia patients. The drug is metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes to produce two enantiomers, which are then excreted in urine unchanged.
