Product Information
ATP-Red 1 is a fluorescent probe that emits red light when it binds to the mitochondrial protein, cytochrome c oxidase. ATP-Red 1 is used to detect cancer cells because mitochondria are found in high numbers in primary tumors and cancers. It has also been used as a probe for measuring the amount of ATP present in cells. ATP-Red 1 has been shown to have physiological effects on cancer cell lines and has been used as a model system for studying the effects of cancer diagnosis on tumor cells. The subpopulation of mitochondria that ATP-Red 1 binds with can be measured using analytical chemistry techniques such as mass spectrometry or fluorescence spectroscopy.
