Product Information

Name:
Fluorofenidone
Description:

Fluorofenidone is a selective and potent inhibitor of the enzyme 5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleotide (AICAR) phosphorylase, which is involved in the metabolic pathway of pentose phosphate. Fluorofenidone has been shown to reduce kidney fibrosis by lowering the production of growth factor-β1. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect on inflammatory bowel disease by inhibiting proinflammatory cytokines such as TNFα and IL-1β. This drug also has potential use for treating bowel diseases, such as ulcerative colitis, by reducing inflammation and increasing autophagy. Fluorofenidone can be used in combination with pentobarbital sodium to increase collagen gel formation and has been shown to have an optimum concentration of 10 μM.
