The synthesis of NK-1 antagonist 1 was accomplished by condensation of benzaldehyde dimethyl acetal and boronic acid. The condensation reaction was catalyzed by a trifluoride reagent, such as boron trifluoride. Diethyl etherate was used to extract the product from the reaction mixture, which was then purified by distillation. The efficiency of this synthetic process is estimated to be about 98%.
