Product Information
Bay 41-4109 is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, (+)Bay 41-4109 and (-) Bay 41-4109. It binds to the alpha subunit of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, which is found in neurons and muscle cells. This binding causes the receptor to activate, opening sodium ion channels that allow an influx of sodium ions into the cell. This influx depolarizes the cell membrane and leads to nerve impulses or muscle contraction. Bay 41-4109 has been shown to be a ligand for nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and has been used as a research tool in studies on protein interactions with receptors.
