Product Information
Esomeprazole magnesium is a prodrug that is converted to esomeprazole in the stomach. It is an inhibitor drug that blocks the production of gastric acid. Esomeprazole magnesium has been shown to be more effective than a placebo in maintaining remission of ulcerative colitis and preventing relapse. The concentration-time curve of esomeprazole magnesium displays a rapid increase in plasma concentrations after administration, with a peak level at about 2 hours. This drug is not active when taken orally, but becomes active when it reaches the stomach after absorption from the intestine. Esomeprazole magnesium does not interact with chiral compounds such as pergolide mesylate or degarelix acetate and has no clinically significant interactions with drugs that are substrates for CYP2C19, CYP2D6, or CYP3A4 enzymes.
