SKF83822 hydrobromide is a potent and selective activator of the potassium-selective ion channel Kv1.3, which is expressed in neurons, cardiac myocytes and smooth muscle cells. SKF83822 hydrobronide has been shown to inhibit neuronal transmission by blocking the release of glutamate from nerve terminals. It also inhibits the generation of action potentials in heart muscle cells and blocks potassium channels in smooth muscle cells, leading to relaxation of blood vessels. SKF83822 hydrobromide can be used as a research tool for studying cell biology or as an antibody reagent for Western blotting or immunohistochemistry.
