Biricodar dicitrate is a peptide that is used as a research tool for the study of ion channels. It is also an inhibitor of protein interactions and has been shown to inhibit binding of ligands to receptors in cell culture. Biricodar dicitrate binds to the voltage-gated potassium channel, blocking the flow of potassium ions across the membrane. This leads to hyperpolarization and decreased excitability of neurons, with a consequent decrease in nerve firing.
