ALX-1393 is a research tool that belongs to the group of ligands. It is a synthetic peptide which activates the receptor for angiotensin II. The ligand binds to the receptor and stimulates the cell to produce an intracellular signal, which increases the opening of ion channels in the cell membrane. As a result, more ions cross into or out of cells, causing changes in membrane potential. This process triggers a series of reactions that lead to an increase in blood pressure. ALX-1393 has been shown to be an inhibitor of angiotensin II type 1 receptors (AT1) and can be used for research purposes only.
