This compound is converted into pyridinedicarboxylic acid, which inhibits hepcidin production and thus increases iron absorption. 2,4-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid diethyl ester also has a biochemical profile that is similar to that of a lipophilic fatty acid ester.</p>
