    8-Chloroadenosine is a potent inhibitor of apoptosis, which is the process by which cells die. It has been shown to inhibit cell growth in murine hepatoma cells and synergize with other cytotoxic agents. 8-Chloroadenosine inhibits the activity of bcl-2 protein and thus blocks the release of cytochrome c from mitochondria.
