Diethyl squarate

Description:
Diethyl squarate, with the CAS number 5231-87-8, is an organic compound that belongs to the class of squarates, which are esters derived from squaric acid. It is characterized by its diethyl ester functional groups, which contribute to its reactivity and solubility properties. Diethyl squarate is typically a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a distinctive odor. It is known for its ability to participate in various chemical reactions, including esterification and polymerization, making it useful in organic synthesis and materials science. The compound is soluble in organic solvents, such as ethanol and ether, but has limited solubility in water. Due to its chemical structure, diethyl squarate can act as a building block for more complex molecules and is of interest in the development of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. However, like many chemical substances, it should be handled with care, as it may pose health and environmental risks if not managed properly.

  • Diethyl squarate

    CAS:
Diethyl squarate is a squaramide that has been used in the treatment of infectious diseases. It is also known to be an anti-inflammatory agent, which has been shown to inhibit the production of prostaglandin, and is therefore useful in the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as alopecia areata. Diethyl squarate also has a role in immune responses as it binds to human serum albumin and alters antibody response. The compound is thought to bind to the hydroxyl group on a protein molecule, forming a covalent linkage with the amide group on another protein molecule. This reaction mechanism may lead to its immunosuppressant properties.
