CAS 60-51-5
:Dimethoate
Description:
Dimethoate is an organophosphate insecticide and acaricide widely used in agriculture to control a variety of pests. It is characterized by its systemic action, allowing it to be absorbed by plants and provide protection against insects that feed on them. Dimethoate is typically a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a faint odor, and it is soluble in organic solvents but has limited solubility in water. The chemical structure features a dimethyl phosphate group, which is responsible for its biological activity. It acts by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, leading to the accumulation of acetylcholine in the nervous system of pests, ultimately resulting in their death. While effective, dimethoate is also associated with potential toxicity to non-target organisms, including humans, and can pose environmental risks. Therefore, its use is regulated in many countries, and safety precautions are advised during application. Proper handling and adherence to guidelines are essential to mitigate risks associated with its use.

CAS:Controlled Product<p>Applications Dimethoate is an organophosphate insecticide (1). It is an anti-cholinesterase which disables cholinesterase, an enzyme essential for central nervous system function (2). Drinking water contaminant candidate list 3 (CCL 3) compound as per United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), environmental, and food contaminants. Used as a standard for Pesticide detection. Useful in cannabis testing kits as a component of pesticide mixes (P698230).<br> Not a dangerous good if item is equal to or less than 1g/ml and there is less than 100g/ml in the package<br>References 1. CAS:<p>Dimethoate is a non-systemic insecticide that inhibits the function of acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine in the nervous system. This leads to a loss of muscle control and eventually death. Dimethoate has been shown to be effective against the larvae of mosquitoes, flies, and beetles at sublethal doses. It also inhibits photosynthetic activity in plants by binding to amide groups on chlorophyll and carotenoids. Dimethoate has been detected in the diet at detectable concentrations. The mechanism of action is still unclear, but it is thought to inhibit photosynthetic pigments by cationic polymerization or ionizing radiation.br>br> br></p>Formula:C5H12NO3PS2Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:229.26 g/molDimethoate
