CFC 113

Description:
CFC-113, also known as trichlorofluoromethane, is a chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) with the chemical formula CCl3F. It is a colorless, non-flammable liquid at room temperature, characterized by its low toxicity and sweet odor. CFC-113 has been widely used as a solvent in industrial applications, particularly in the electronics industry for cleaning and degreasing purposes. It has a relatively high boiling point compared to other CFCs, which makes it effective in various applications. However, CFC-113 is known to contribute to ozone depletion in the stratosphere, leading to its phase-out under the Montreal Protocol. Its atmospheric lifetime is significant, allowing it to persist and impact the environment long after its release. Due to its environmental effects, the use of CFC-113 has been largely restricted, and alternatives are being sought in many applications. Safety precautions are necessary when handling this substance, as it can cause respiratory irritation and other health issues if inhaled or ingested.
