<p>2,5-Dimethoxybenzenesulfonyl chloride is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. It is used to prepare calibration standards for use in analytical chemistry and as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds. 2,5-Dimethoxybenzenesulfonyl chloride inhibits the production of neurotransmitter acetylcholine by preventing acetylcholinesterase from breaking down acetylcholine. <p>2-(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl)acetohydrazide (2DMAH) is an alpha-amylase inhibitor that is used to treat type 2 diabetes. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of α-amylase in human pancreatic juice and serum. 2DMAH has a number of phenyl groups that are responsible for its inhibition of carbohydrate metabolism. The crystal x-ray diffraction profile of 2DMAH shows a single peak at around 5.5° angle, which is characteristic of phenyl rings.
