<p>5-(4-Methoxyphenyl)isoxazole-3-carboxaldehyde (5MI) is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent that exhibits activity against bacteria and fungi. It has been shown to be active against gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, as well as Candida albicans and other pathogenic fungi. 5MI is active in the presence of ethanol, but not in the absence of alcohol.
