Product Information

Name:
CMX 001
Synonyms:
  • Brincidofovir
Description:

CMX 001 is a prodrug that is administered orally and converted to its active form, CMX 001-MP, in the gastrointestinal tract. CMX 001-MP is then transported by the blood to the kidneys where it is excreted unchanged. CMX 001-MP inhibits viral replication by inhibiting viral DNA polymerase and viral RNA synthesis. It has been shown to be effective against wild-type viruses in vitro and in vivo as well as against HIV in humans with active antiretroviral therapy. The drug also has a prolonged effect on viral load when used as antiviral prophylaxis for intravitreal injection, which may be due to its high affinity for acyclic nucleoside phosphonate (ANA) receptors on cells of the eye.
