BAY-524 is a small molecule that inhibits the function of kinesins. It was originally identified as a pharmacologic compound that induced cell death. BAY-524 sensitizes cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents and selectively targets cancer stem cells. BAY-524 is believed to work by targeting and inhibiting the function of kinesins, which are proteins that transport material within a cell, including cancer cells. BAY-524 has been shown to inhibit histone H3 kinase activity and block tumor growth in mice with breast cancer.
