Ilaprazole is a proton pump inhibitor used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), ulcers, and other conditions. It is an active ingredient in the drug Zegerid, which inhibits gastric acid production by blocking the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme in the stomach. Ilaprazole has been shown to have a high efficacy and good tolerability with few side effects. However, it may cause gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea, heartburn, diarrhea or constipation. Ilaprazole can also interact with other drugs that are metabolized by CYP2C19 or CYP3A4 enzymes. These drugs include celecoxib, cyclosporin A, tacrolimus, midazolam, lovastatin and simvastatin. Ilaprazole is a fluorescing agent that emits light when excited with ultraviolet radiation at 350 nm. The emission spectrum of ilaprazole displays two peaks:
