:Doramectin
Description:
Doramectin is a macrocyclic lactone, primarily used as an antiparasitic agent in veterinary medicine. It is derived from the fermentation of the bacterium Streptomyces avermitilis and is closely related to ivermectin. Doramectin exhibits a broad spectrum of activity against various internal and external parasites, including nematodes and arthropods, making it effective in treating infections in livestock and companion animals. The substance is characterized by its lipophilic nature, which enhances its absorption and distribution in animal tissues. Doramectin works by binding to glutamate-gated chloride channels and other ligand-gated ion channels in the nervous system of parasites, leading to paralysis and death. It is typically administered via injection or as a topical formulation. The compound has a relatively long half-life, allowing for sustained efficacy against parasites. Safety profiles indicate that doramectin is generally well-tolerated in animals, although care must be taken to avoid use in certain species, such as fish and some invertebrates, due to potential toxicity.
