:Tylosin
Description:
Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic primarily used in veterinary medicine, particularly for livestock and poultry, to treat bacterial infections and promote growth. It is derived from the bacterium *Streptomyces fradiae* and exhibits a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive bacteria and some Gram-negative bacteria. Tylosin functions by inhibiting protein synthesis in bacteria, thereby preventing their growth and reproduction. The substance is typically administered in the form of its tartrate salt, which enhances its solubility. Tylosin is known for its relatively low toxicity in animals, but its use is regulated in food-producing animals to prevent antibiotic residues in meat products. Additionally, it has been studied for its potential applications in aquaculture and as a feed additive. Its chemical structure features a large lactone ring, characteristic of macrolides, which contributes to its antibacterial properties. As with many antibiotics, the emergence of resistance is a concern, necessitating careful management of its use in agricultural practices.
