Description: Pyrethrins are a group of natural insecticides derived from the flowers of the chrysanthemum plant, specifically Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium and Chrysanthemum coccineum. They are characterized by their ability to disrupt the nervous system of insects, leading to paralysis and death. Pyrethrins are known for their rapid action and relatively low toxicity to humans and pets when used appropriately, making them popular in both agricultural and household pest control applications. Chemically, pyrethrins are esters of chrysanthemic acid and contain multiple isomers, which contribute to their insecticidal properties. They are sensitive to light and air, which can degrade their effectiveness over time.
