:Enrofloxacin
Description:
Enrofloxacin is a synthetic fluoroquinolone antibiotic primarily used in veterinary medicine to treat bacterial infections in animals. It exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes for DNA replication and transcription. Enrofloxacin is characterized by its relatively high solubility in water and organic solvents, which facilitates its administration via oral or injectable routes. The compound has a molecular formula that includes a bicyclic structure, contributing to its pharmacological properties. Enrofloxacin is metabolized in the liver to its active form, ciprofloxacin, which also possesses antibacterial activity. While effective, its use is regulated due to concerns about antibiotic resistance and potential effects on human health, particularly in food-producing animals. Safety profiles indicate that it should be used cautiously, considering potential side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances and effects on cartilage development in young animals. Overall, enrofloxacin remains a critical tool in veterinary medicine, balancing efficacy with responsible usage guidelines.

CAS:
Enrofloxacin is a rapidly bactericidal antibiotic, that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit and blocking protein synthesis, thereby preventing the bacteria from making new proteins. Enrofloxacin also has strong activity against gram-positive bacteria, including Clostridium perfringens which is an anaerobic bacterium that causes food-borne illness. This antibiotic is used for the treatment of acute bacterial infections in humans, such as, skin or soft tissue infections, urinary tract infections (UTIs) and septicemia (bloodstream infection). Enrofloxacin has shown excellent bioavailability with high serum protein binding capacity. Additionally, it has good efficacy against clinical isolates of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Enrofloxacin can be used effective in treatments for Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter species.
Formula:C19H22FN3O3Purity:Min. 98.5 Area-%Molecular weight:359.39 g/molEnrofloxacin
