The compound has been found to undergo two types of reactions, cyclization and acyclic rearrangement. The acyclic rearrangement produces an α,β-unsaturated aldehyde through elimination of water and release of hydrogen gas. This reaction can be observed in the spectra as a protonated carbonyl band at 1725 cm−1.
