Organic phosphates are compounds that contain a phosphate group (-PO₄) attached to a carbon atom within an organic structure, typically in combination with alcohols, acids, or amines. Organic phosphates also play a role in controlled drug release and in improving the absorption of certain medications. Organic phosphonates contain a phosphonate group (-PO₃H₂) in which the phosphorus atom is bonded to a carbon atom and two oxygen groups.
