:N,N-Diethyl-m-toluamide
Description:
N,N-Diethyl-m-toluamide, commonly known as DEET, is an organic compound widely recognized for its use as an insect repellent. It is characterized by its chemical structure, which includes a toluamide group, contributing to its efficacy in repelling mosquitoes and other biting insects. DEET is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a faint odor and is soluble in organic solvents but has limited solubility in water. Its molecular formula is C12H17NO, and it has a relatively low volatility, which allows it to remain effective on the skin for extended periods. DEET works by interfering with the insect's ability to detect human scent, thus reducing the likelihood of bites. While generally considered safe for use, it is important to apply it according to guidelines to minimize potential skin irritation or adverse reactions. Its widespread application in personal care products underscores its significance in public health, particularly in areas where insect-borne diseases are prevalent.

CAS:Controlled Product
N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) is a coumarin derivative that is used as an insect repellent. It is the most commonly used insect repellent in the world. DEET has been shown to be safe for use by humans and animals at low doses. The LD50 of DEET in rats is greater than 2000 mg/kg. However, toxicological studies have shown that DEET can cause neurological damage in mice at high doses. This product has been found to be effective against mosquitoes and other insects, but not ticks or chiggers. In addition, it has been found to inhibit leukemia inhibitory factor activity in human cells.
Formula:C12H17NOPurity:Min. 97%Color and Shape:Clear LiquidMolecular weight:191.27 g/mol
