    L-threo-methylphenidate hydrochloride is a drug with a long duration of action. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of ADHD symptoms and is used as an alternative to dexmethylphenidate. L-threo-methylphenidate hydrochloride is metabolized by cytochrome P450s, which results in slower pharmacokinetics, but also increases its bioavailability. L-threo-methylphenidate hydrochloride inhibits the activity of dopamine transporters, which leads to increased extracellular dopamine levels and reduced locomotor activity in mice. This drug has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect on alopecia areata and may be useful as a treatment for this condition.
