p,p′-DDE, or 1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis(p-chlorophenyl)ethylene, is a persistent organic pollutant and a breakdown product of the pesticide DDT (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane). It is characterized by its lipophilic nature, which allows it to accumulate in the fatty tissues of living organisms, leading to biomagnification in the food chain. p,p′-DDE is a colorless to pale yellow solid at room temperature and is relatively stable, exhibiting low volatility.
